Our stay at Villa di Campolungo EXCEEDS all my expectation of what a Tuscan vacation
would be. A short 20 min cab ride from Florence, the Villa is nestled in a picturesque
hillside village, and the host Silvia is the most warm, wonderful, gracious,
accommodating host I have ever encounter. We stay in the room "The Annex" and it is big,
comfy, charming yet modern, and elegantly decorated. You can really tell Silvia has
superb taste with the tasteful renovation & the high quality furnishing / bed linens she
has chosen. We also have spectacular view right out our windows & terrace and every
where you look around the property the view is out of the world beautiful. Silvia and
her husband also made us the most incredible breakfast spread that consist of freshly
home made bread, frittata, jams (i think total of 6 different kinds), local-made cheese,
yogurt, honey...etc. What we ate was for far more delicious (and healthy) than something
served from a five-star hotel. On the morning of our departure, Silvia couldn't get a
taxi from the local taxi company so she simply drove me & my friend to the train station
in Florence ! I have stay at many B&B and can truthfully say Silvia is the most
kind-hearted, welcoming, and superb host I have ever met. I cannot thank her enough for
making our stay the most perfect Tuscan vacation. Villa di Campolungo should be your #1
choice to stay if you are looking for a home-base to explore the beautiful Tuscan
landscape within close proximity to Florence.

As others have said, you would be hard pressed to find somewhere better in the region.
Although beautifully rural, it's near Florence, and we even managed the stay without a
car, getting buses and taxis when needed (and Sylvia very kindly gave us two lifts to
save us time). You have all the benefits of being near a city while being able to relax
in a rural setting with absolutely stunning views. (Really I doubt the view could be
bettered.)
I love interiors and Sylvia and Eric have restored and decorated their B&B with fabulous
taste and sensitivity to the villa's style. It feels like being in a luxury 5 star
hotel, but with all the personal touches and homeliness that can only come with a small
guesthouse. One morning Eric took the time to tell us about the history of Florence, he
did it with such enthusiasm and we couldn't wait to visit!
I haven't even mentioned the food! We looked so forward to breakfast each morning, as
everyone has said, it's just perfect. In good weather you can enjoy breakfast on the
terrace and after our hectic wedding, it was here on the terrace sipping hot drinks and
eating Sylvia's freshly baked bread that we finally relaxed. (I mentioned to Sylvia that
it was the best bread I'd ever tasted - it was true!). For evening meals we went a few
times to the local restaurant Mario alla Querciola, which was lovely, or into Fiesole
which has lots of excellent restaurants.
We hope to return again. As we left, Sylvia waved us off from the driveway as though we
were her personal guests. This is a really special place and we're so thankful we got to
spend our special week here. Thank you.

Villa di Campolungo is the perfect place for a Tuscan vacation. Although our 9 day
vacation was two months ago (May 2014) my mind keeps wandering back to spectacular views
from our terrace overlooking the olive groves and vineyards. Initially we spent a lot of
time “virtual viewing” (Google Earth and Street view) Villa di Campolungo and the
surrounding area, not to mention reading the numerous reviews here on tripadvisor.
Needless to say, when we arrived Villa di Campolungo it was everything we had imaged it
would be and more ….. way more.
One of the selling points of Villa di Campolungo for us was staying just a short
distance outside the city of Florence, allowing us the convenience of being able to
enjoy the quite Tuscan country side after long days of sightseeing in Florence.
Villa di Campolungo is approximately 8 miles outside the city of Florence, and located
on the hills overlooking Olive Groves and Vineyards. They are located on a long winding
(less traveled) gravel road, which makes you feel like you’re staying this huge private
Villa Estate.
They are on about 73 acres which contains their numerous Olive groves, and each fall
they harvest and produce their own Olive Oil, which is fantastic.
As we didn’t rent a car, every day we walked down the winding gravel road to the nearby
town picking up the train or local bus to Fiesole and/or Florence. This was a great way
to experience the local flavor of Tuscany, outside the hustle and bustle of Florence.
The other positive point was the innkeeper Silvia, the first thing I noticed was that
she personally responded to every review posted on Trip Advisor. Also when I contacted
her with (many, many) questions about Villa di Campolungo and the surrounding area she
responded immediately with great care and enthusiasm. She made the reservation process
very smooth and effortless. During our stay Silvia always took the time to help us, from
understand the ins and outs of the public transportation (Like I stated before, we
didn’t rent a car) and even offered to drive us to a few of our starting points. On our
first night she graciously dropped us off and picked us up at a local restaurant. One
day Silvia picked fresh Artichokes from their kitchen garden and served them with their
Olive Oil and salt while explaining the whole process of harvesting and producing their
own Olive Oil. (Silvia is a certified Olive Oil tester).
We stayed in the Annex room, the decor was Elegant and Spacious. The views from the
large windows and from our private terrace were specular. Villa di Campolungo blends
elegance of the old Tuscan villa style and the comfort and function of modern
accommodations.
The breakfast each day was fantastic.
Silvia greeted us each morning and pointed out the local ingredients she used in
preparing the dishes. Silvia’s baked breads and desserts are fantastic, and were the
perfect beginning to long days of exploring Tuscany.
So... if you’re looking for the perfect Tuscan vacation, Villa di Campolungo is the
place to stay. Silvia and her family will make you feel right at home and pampered

Last year in April my wife and I spent 2 weeks at Campolungo, we still talk about how
beautiful and ideal this location was for our trip. We were able to easily travel to
Florence by bus and train and take a nice long walk home in the fresh air and beautiful
surroundings. We then rented a car and was easily able to visit local towns in which
Silvia made great recommendations. We would return, stopping at the local market and
enjoy eating our dinner on the terrace. We would then wake up to the fantastic
breakfast. My sister in law and husband joined us for a few days and they also loved it.
Sylvia and Eric make you feel welcomed, it's truly a special place!
